Why do you close Tocal Homestead’s Visitor Centre on Sundays in December and January?

We close Tocal Homestead’s Visitor Centre to the public on Sundays during Summer due to the hot, dry conditions at the time of year. For your safety and enjoyment of our heritage site, please schedule your visit between February and November to enjoy the site at its best.

Can you stay there?

Yes! There is four boutique style accommodation rooms on site at ‘The Barracks, Tocal’, just a short stroll from Tocal Homestead. Perfect to accompany your weekend visit or if you are attending a wedding. For more information, see our accommodation page

Can I visit outside of your opening hours?

Weddings, private functions, school and seniors tours are available all year round at any time by appointment.

Does anyone live in the house?

No. The last person to occupy Tocal Homestead was the caretaker in 2017. Our current caretaker lives on site in the ‘Daly Kidd Cottage’.

Can I hire it out for my birthday?

Yes, Tocal Homestead Function Centre is the perfect location to celebrate birthdays. Please contact Sprout Catering at 0410 409 746 or on cateringtocal@outlook.com

Can I take photos there?

Tocal Homestead site can be hired by families and photographers to capture your special moments.

Can I bring my pet?

Tocal Homestead is a listed heritage and wildlife refuge site, therefore we do not permit pets on site. However, under certain conditions wedding parties may request pets in attendance. Please contact us to discuss.

Is there public transport to the site?

The closest public transport to Tocal Homestead is the Paterson railway station (2 minutes drive away). If organised in advance, Diggers Taxi’s 4032 7999 could assist you with your transport needs.

 

Can I buy food and drinks there?

Our Visitor Centre opens on Sundays February to November and provides Devonshire teas, soft drinks and hot drinks.

Do you have an ATM and Eftpos?

There are eftpos facilities available in the Visitor Centre. There are no ATM facilities on site. Cash can be withdrawn from the ATM at the Paterson Tavern & Yabbies Bistro if required.

How do I get there?

Tocal Homestead is at 957 Tocal Road, Paterson. It is a 20 minute drive from Maitland and 5 minutes outside the historic Paterson Village. Get Directions

What happens if it rains?

We will only cancel a group tour or school group due to severe weather conditions. If you have a tour booked, call the office on 4939 8901 to see what the conditions are like at the site. Schools groups can call 0498 018 984 out of hours if more information is needed.

Do you have disabled and change table facilities?

Tocal Homestead has gravelled pathways suitable for wheelchair access. We also have ramp access into the Homestead ground floor. Tocal Homestead has wheelchair friendly toilet facilities. A change table and wheelchair friendly amenities are available at the Hay Shed Function Centre.

What should I bring?

Flat, enclosed and comfortable walking shoes.

Do you have a minimum group numbers for your tours?

For small group tours we charge a minimum group fee and welcome your enquiry.
